Progress...

What is your definition of progress?

I think sometimes its easy to forget what progress really means. Often we have created our own visions of where we want to be and we are working hard to get there yet we feel like we are not making progress.

Progress comes in many different shapes and forms and its good to remember that just because you are not where you want to be yet doesnt mean by a long shot that you are not progressing.

Progress represents the whole process, it represents every choice you make to get closer to your goal. Now that choice could be as huge as completeing your 1st marathon or as small as choosing something healthy from the menu, either way you are making progress.

There are no rules on how to measure progress other than the ones we create for ourselves, and sometimes this is very unfair as we are all too often our worst critics.

Remember the last time someone told you how great you look and you shrugged it off denying that you were looking quite as good as you would like? (yeah me too) This is a great example of how we define progress and how we have forgotten what it really means.

Progress simply means that you are making active choices that are getting you closer to your goal. Sometimes this is quicker than we imagined and sometimes it takes longer than we would have liked but neither make the progress less real and less worthy of your pride and attention.

Imagine that you could congratulate yourself everytime you completed a workout, or practiced some yoga or cooked a healthy family meal then would you feel you were progressing?

What im trying to express is that when we are feeling like we are not progressing although we are doing our best it is most likely because we have forgotton all of our achievements and how far we have really come.

Next time you feel frustrated with the process take a minute, look within and remind yourself of all the good choices you have made and how far you have already come towards your goal. Trust in your process and remember to stop and take note of your daily progress no matter how big or small it may seem because sometimes you are the only one that can see just how much personal progress you have made...
